WASHINGTON, D.C. - In a historic first home match played in front of a packed crowd, the KDES middle school boys volleyball team battled hard but fell to Maryland School for the Deaf- Frederick, 2-1, on Tuesday.
KDES came out strong, riding the energy of a full house to take the opening set, 25-19. Confident play at the net helped the home team control the tempo early and secure the program's first home set win.
MSD responded in the second set, adjusting defensively and capitalizing on key scoring runs to even the match with a 25-19 win.
In the deciding third set, MSD maintained control and pulled away for a 15-9 victory to clinch the match.
The night carried added significance for KDES, as the team suited up with just five available players. Stepping up in a big way, two members of the girls track team joined the lineup to help the squad compete in the program's milestone home opener.
