The KDES girls volleyball team opened its home season Thursday against Maryland International School, falling 0-2 (5-25, 10-25).

With three eighth graders graduating last year, a younger KDES squad stepped into new roles for the home opener. Nerves were evident early, but the team settled in as the match progressed, building confidence and competing with greater intensity in the second set.

Clementine Holcomb sparked the team with four consecutive aces, giving KDES an exciting stretch of momentum. The young Wildcats continued to battle and gain valuable experience throughout the match.

KDES will look to build on Thursday's performance when the team travels to Maryland School for the Deaf's Columbia Campus on Tuesday, September 8, for a 4:00 p.m. matchup.
