FREMONT, Calif. — The MSSD boys volleyball team opened play at the National Deaf Boys Volleyball Tournament with a 2–1 record, showing strong effort as the defending champions.
Match 1: MSSD def. California School for the Deaf, Riverside (2–0)
MSSD started the day strong with a straight-sets win over California School for the Deaf, Riverside, 25–21, 25–12.
Denali Boren was named Player of the Game for his all-around performance.
Match 2: MSSD def. California School for the Deaf, Fremont (2–1)
MSSD followed with another win over California School for the Deaf, Fremont in three sets, 25–18, 19–25, 15–9.
Micah Baskin earned Player of the Game honors.
Match 3: MSSD fell to Maryland School for the Deaf (1–2)
MSSD dropped a tough match to Maryland School for the Deaf, 25–22, 20–25, 14–16.
The Eagles were in position to close it out, leading 14–12 in the third set, but Maryland responded with a 4–0 run to secure the win.
This matchup continues a competitive season series, as Maryland also edged MSSD earlier this season in an ISBVL match, 3–2.
Danton Hill was named Player of the Game for his effort in the match, while
Denali Boren continued to stand out as an all-around contributor throughout the day, giving full effort on every play.

As the defending champions, MSSD advances to bracket play and will face California School for the Deaf, Fremont in the semifinals tomorrow at 12:30 PM (EST).
