Celebrating Our 8th Grade KDES Fall Sports Student-Athletes

Thursday October 15th- As we recognize our 8th grade student-athletes, we celebrate the dedication, perseverance, leadership, and growth of our girls volleyball and cross country athletes.

Throughout the season, our girls volleyball athletes demonstrated teamwork, resilience, and a willingness to learn. Their positive attitudes, dedication to practice, and commitment to continuous improvement helped strengthen our team culture.

Our cross country athletes exemplified perseverance and mental toughness. Through every race, our runners challenged themselves, pushed through difficult moments, and showed the determination to finish strong.

These accomplishments and reflections were shared during our 8th grade fall sports recognition ceremony at the KDES Gym, by girl's head volleyball Head Coach Jillian Apfel and Assistant Coach Ksenia Markel, and cross country coach Giovanni Fiello and coach Marcella Shular.

Girls Volleyball

Alyssa Chen

Alyssa's growth throughout her volleyball journey at KDES has been a pleasure to witness. Her confidence has continued to develop, and she has emerged as a natural leader who brings optimism and positive energy to the team. Her willingness to share feedback, support younger players, and commit herself to improving her skills, particularly her overhead serve, reflects her dedication and strong work ethic.

As Alyssa concludes her 8th grade season on the Kendall court, we celebrate her leadership, progress, and contributions to the team. We look forward to seeing her continue to grow and shine at MSSD.

Cross Country

Nemion Janifer

What I really loved about you the most is your attitude. You always show up to practice and game with an incredibly positive attitude and do your part. You are so dedicated to the practice and the game, you are willing to do whatever it takes to do your best. I will have to be honest, there will be some days when it can feel gloomy, but Nemion always knew how to lighten up my day. He truly raised the coaching staff's morale. This attitude will take you far in life.

Foka Singleton

Foka demonstrated the willingness to commit to and finish the race. There is nothing more impressive than what he did in his race; despite his sprained ankle, he mustered all his strength to finish. An attitude like that is rare to come by. I know you will do great in other sports in this upcoming year and at the next level.

Keivonn Woodard

Ain't nothing finer than a man who is willing to do whatever it takes to give his absolute best, going 110% in every practice and game. That is him, and for him to still stand tall and lead the team in practice every and each day is beyond me. I am really looking forward to your growth and progression both on and off the field.

Looking Ahead

KDES Athletics extends its sincere appreciation to our coaches, families, supporters and volunteers for their encouragement and support to our student-athletes.

Congratulations to our 8th grade girls volleyball and cross country athletes! Thank you for the hard work, positive energy, leadership, and commitment you have brought to KDES athletics.
